With a genius IQ, a past career as a circus acrobat, and a black belt in karate, criminology professor Dr. Robert Frederickson—better known as "Mongo the Magnificent"—has a decidedly unusual background for a private investigator. He also just so happens to be a dwarf. Mongo's friend and sensei, Veil Kendry, is pretty magnificent himself. A devoted martial arts instructor and extremely successful abstract artist, Veil single-handedly transformed his shady neighborhood in New York City's Lower East Side into a safe haven from crime and corruption. But when Mongo enters Veil's abandoned apartment and finds a bullet hole, a cryptic oil painting, and an envelope addressed to him containing $10,000, he starts to worry that Veil's reputation as a vigilante has gotten him into the worst sort of trouble. Determined to find his friend, Mongo attempts to rule out any enemies from Veil's past—details of which Veil has never shared with him. But as he uncovers the shocking truth of Veil's time in the Vietnam War—participating in dangerous CIA missions under the call sign "Archangel"—Mongo soon finds enemies aplenty, ones that will do anything to make sure the past remains a secret . . . In addition to creating "the most engaging detective in decades," author George C. Chesbro introduces the character of Veil Kendry, who would go on to have his own series (Library Journal). Two Songs This Archangel Sings is the 5th book in the Mongo Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Rough justice has often been served in the pages of serial novels, notably beginning with Don Pendleton’s The Executioner in 1969. This is the first overview of the serial vigilante genre, which featured such hard-boiled protagonists as Nick Carter, Mark Stone, Jake Brand and Able Team among the 130 series that followed Pendleton’s novel. Serial vigilantes repeatedly take the law into their own hands, establishing and imposing their own moral standards, usually by force. The book examines the connections between the serial vigilante and the pulp hero that preceded him and how the serial vigilante has influenced a variety of tough guys, private eyes, spies and cops in different media. A complete bibliography for each series is featured.

Kaarle Krohn's Folklore Methodology was the first systematic attempt to state a method of studying folkloristic materials. For centuries scholars had collected folkloristic texts and had commented on them, but they had not tried to formulate a method of investigating folklore. Folklore Methodology became the handbook for the great Finnish School of folklore research. It provided for its students a guide to the geographical research of traditional materials, a radical departure from the literary scholarship that had dominated folklore studies. Krohn's book explores the causes and modes of folklore diffusion, development, and destruction; it outlines the influences that cause change in folklore; it provides valuable insights into the nature of folklore; and, finally, it develops geographic methods for analyzing, classifying, and reconstructing individual items from the folk repertoire. While many developments have taken place since Krohn first published his guide, important new concepts of folklore research sprang from his efforts. For this reason, Folklore Methodology is mandatory reading for every serious student of folklore.

John Wesley published three tune books in two-decade intervals for the evangelical British Methodist movement within the Church of England with its varied audiences and diverse musical tastes. S T Kimbrough, Jr. and Carlton R. Young have published the only facsimile reprints, with critical introductions and notes, of the first two collections (1742 and 1761). Wesley intended his third collection, Sacred Harmony, or a choice Collection of Psalms and Hymns, Set to Music in two or three parts for the Voice, Harpsichord & Organ (1780), henceforth SH 1780, as a musical companion to his monumental A Collection of Hymns for the Use of the People Called Methodists (1780). This edition of SH 1780 provides the ecclesial, cultural, and musical contexts of the volume; traces the sources of each tune and text (with textual variants), provides indexes of texts and tunes, and appropriate appendices. The copy used for this facsimile includes the autograph of John Wesley and the date of January 10, 1780, on an opening flyleaf, his marginal notes, and is housed in the archives of Old St. George's United Methodist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Each page of this facsimile edition of SH 1780 has been thoroughly cleaned of bleedthrough and blotches.
