Maan Singh was a young boy who was abducted as an infant and raised by wolves for about 5 years. This book tells the story of this child as he was "rescued" from the wolves by my father, Harris Fulton David, and brought back to civilization. He walked on his four, like the wolves. He howled at the moon. He ate like an animal. He wore no clothes. He was a Wolf-Child.

Ltd., which publishes other periodicals, including the weekly newspaper This Week and The Himalayan Traveller. Founded in 1998 by Barun Roy, the magazine is by far more popular among the youths of the region than the readers of other generations. The magazine's name is often abbreviated to Beacon, due to its earlier popularity as Beacon. Prologue The two pairs of soldiers, walking on the pavement, came face to face about fifty yards away from each other. The Indian soldiers were from a local Infantry Battalion of the Sikh Regiment. The British Soldiers were from the CMP (short for Corps of Military Police), commonly called the MPs. The Indians looked at each other and realized that the situation was of one pair being on the right-side or the wrong-side of the road. They made up their minds individually. Said the first one to his friend,"The bloody Goras (the Whiteman is called a Gora) are on the wrong-side! Why should we get down to the road from the pavement?" His friend replied with emphasis,"That's right. Why should we?" After a pause,he added with more conviction, "We shall see today! The Firangies (foreigners) don't enforce the same rule with British troops." "Let's see them today. We can bear the consequences later," said the first one with emphasis. Both the Indians braced up. Raising their heads they walked as though fully prepared for the confrontation which was by then just thirty yards away and approaching fast. The MPs also raised their chins. Without looking at each other, they exchanged words. Said the taller one to his slim friend," Those damn Indians are right in our way. I think we ought to give them a good dressing-down if they don't get down from the pavement." "Bloody right, mate. They should not have been here in the first place," said the slim one while transferring his right-hand to the grip of his cane and removing it from under his left armpit. Instinctively, his left-hand went to his right pocket and unbuttoned the flap so that he could pull out the whistle quickly. That was like a routine drill movement for any MP when he realized the need to blow the whistle-mainly as a warning to a defaulter and also to alert others of his profession. By then both the pairs were about ten yards apart. The Indians showed no sign of relenting and the MPs thought they had a duty to perform. Seeing the cane being transferred to the right-hand, the second Indian muttered to his friend,"He may hit one of us. That is my gut feeling." "If he dares! This puny fellow had it, today. I'll cut him to pieces,"said the first one in the same low tone muttered through his clenched teeth.Punjabi language can be very forceful when it comes to emphasising a point, as was the Pushtu language of the local Pathans tribals, since they were neighbors. As the distance between the pairs became less, their speed of paces slowed down. The Indians had made up their mind to confront the MPs. Since a Sikh never starts a fight, they were waiting for action from the Goras. The two MPs were slightly taken aback at the audacity of the Sikh soldiers. By then they were just a yard apart. The pavement at that point was slightly wide. Both the Sikhs tried to stay on the pavement and made way for the Policemen by edging closer to the hedge. The first one was on the right of second one and thus closer to the British. The MPs reluctantly edged towards the road while definitely staying on the pavement. The aim was to stay on the pavement. The slim one was on the right of the tall one and thus closer to the first Indian. As he came next to them, his face turned red with disdain seeing the damn Indians conveniently edging towards the hedge thus taking up a slightly higher and superior position, rather than give way to the British masters by stepping down on to the low road. That was a challenge to the self respect of

A historical narrative that examines the role of ulema and their use of the concept of jihad during India’s struggle for independence. Colonialism and the Call to Jihad in British India examines the role of Muslim religious leaders or Ulema’s in India’s freedom struggle. And it does so by visiting the life and times of seven main protagonists- the 19th century cleric Sayyid Ahmad Barelvi, the mystic revolutionary Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah, Maulana Mahmoodul Hasan( the founding father of the Silk Conspiracy and later of Jamia Millia Movement), Maulana Obaidullah Sindhi, Barkatullah Khan and Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani. All eulogized the idea of ‘Jihad’ but used it to fight and lead the freedom struggle against the British. It examines the roots of the Walliullahi movement which led to the Deoband movement in the second half of the 19thcentury in North India. It also highlights the 20thcentury Silk letter movement in which Muslim Ulema worked in tandem with the Hindu and Sikh Nationalists led Ghadar Party which was active not just in India but also in Europe and the USA. The book is a timely reminder of a shared Hindu-Muslim unity during our freedom struggle and helps us understand the commonly misunderstood notion of Jihad in the Indian context. The book in the end puts onus on the prevailing political system to ensure that India does not fall victim to sectarian violence and religious intolerance.

The common perception of people living in this world is that most people in the film world live their lives by masking their faces, like as they have come from another world. There are very few people who are related to reality, they neither do any show-off nor they deceive anyone, but most of the people have put a mask on their face. This book is a memorandum of the author of “Bollywood Secrets”. Whatever has happened, the author has presented it very honestly in this book. After reading this book, readers will have an opportunity to learn a lot about the people of the film world and to understand many other things. This book contains such an interesting memoir that you have never read in any of the film journals.

Tara had now been out of my care for nearly a year and it was becoming increasingly difficult to recognize her pugmarks. It was therefore essential to get a photograph which would prove beyond doubt that the tigress in the neighbourhood was indeed the one that I had reared at Tiger Haven. The stripe pattern in tiger’s changes with growth and age but the cheek stripes and the eye spots, though asymmetrical, are immutable. This is an anthology on the tiger in India. The contributors come from various walks of life (conservation, wildlife, ecology, photography and film-making) bound by a common interest in the tiger. Jim Corbett was a hunter turned conservationist who edited India’s first magazine on the subject; his ‘Chowgarh Tigers’ is the sole hunting story written in a different age of changing circumstances by a man who forsaw the possible extinction of the tiger, but reacted violently because of the involvement of the human element. Nicholas Courtney is a writer, broadcaster and documentary film-maker. Valmik Thapar is a photographer, documentary film-maker and writer. Fiona Sunquist is a wildlife writer and photographer. Mel Sunquist is a wildlife ecologist. In the modern context the extinction of this glamourous cat is a spectre that haunts all of us. The magnitude of this loss will make itself felt only when the species is in limbo. It behoves civilised humanity to ensure the tiger’s survival, and the great forests he needs to live in, and of which he is the symbol.
