What is reality? Is reality both mind and matter, body and soul, as taught by Western religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam? This is dualism, the approach of philosophers from Plato to Descartes. Or is reality only matter, as taught by many modern scientists and philosophers? This is materialism, the approach of philosophers from Hobbes to Marx. Or is reality only mind, as taught by Eastern religions and Western mystics. This is the approach of philosophers from Berkeley to Whitehead. The beginning of Genesis allows for multiple translations and interpretations. We will read the creation story in Genesis from the point of view of each of these three approaches--dualism, materialism, and idealism. In doing so, we will tell three very different creation stories. These stories will take us on a fascinating journey through science, philosophy, and religion. Join us on this journey as we explore issues such as does God perform miracles, why is there evil in the universe, was Darwin correct, can robots have souls, and if light is a wave, what is waving?

Here we have a vivid description of the experiences and images evoked in the old Hebrews by the very sounds of their ancient language. The days of creation are compared with the description of evolution Rudolf Steiner gives in Occult Science -- An Outline and Theosophy of the Rosicrucian. They comprise the repetition of condition that preceded the solidifying of the Earth. The depth of detail gives a new dimension to the biblical story and to the creation of man as a spiritual being before he descended to take on a fleshly body. One is left with a feeling of awe at the sublime picture of the deeds of the Elohim and other hierarchies.

At the beginning of this new millennium there is an increasing tension between the doctrines of both orthodox Christianity and Judaism, and the changing beliefs of modern society. This is particularly noticeable in such areas as the role of women, the human relationship with God, and life after death, as new ideas clash with religious dogmas that, based upon a literal acceptance of the Creation Story in Genesis, suggest the inferiority of women, the inherent sinfulness of humanity, an active Devil, and an everlasting Hell. When this ancient Hebrew Paradisial tale is considered as a myth, however, rather than historical fact, and interpreted from the perspective of what the Jewish mystics (kabbalists) say was the original intent, then all the weak and demeaning ideas are removed. When Adam, Eve, the serpent, tree, etc., are read as archetypal figures an entirely different meaning is revealed that removes the confusion which is contributing to the existing tensions in society. This understanding presents a new, constructive look at Scripture for a wide audience of both Christian and Jewish women and men as well as those who are outside those two faiths with the exception of the most orthodox Jews, and those fundamentalist Christians who insist on a literal reading of the Bible. The Female, the Tree, and Creation, 1) explains the original meaning of the Adam and Eve tale as interpreted by Jewish kabbalists, 2) traces the themes of the Creation Story (e.g. the role of women, human relationship with God, sin, evil, etc.), through Judaism and early Christianity, and their evolvement in public consciousness, orthodox religion, and other spiritual teachings, up to the present time, 3) shows the practical value of Kabbalah in helping to resolve the controversies of today, irrespective of ones cultural or religious background, and 4) interprets historical trends to logically suggest the likely direction of mans consciousness and institutionalized religion in the 21st century. 5) This manuscript is enhanced by separate Introductions from Rabbi Gelberman (New York), and Dr. Carol Parrish-Harra, President, Sancta Sophia Seminary (Oklahoma). 6) The length of the manuscript is approximately 66,000 words, and consists of six chapters and an Appendix. A condensed outline follows. Chapter One: The Significance of Myth: Uses illustrative stories to explain the value of myth, and how the Creation Story fits a mythical pattern. Chapter Two: Symbols in the Adam and Eve Story An in-depth explanation and historical background of the various symbols (Tree, Serpent, etc.) that appear in this story. Chapter Three: The Source: The source of the Creation Story symbols, particularly the female and the serpent. I.. Moses and Egypt II. Mythic Formation. How and why the Creation Story was constructed along the lines of kabbalstic mysticism to covertly deliver a message of the sacredness of the female, the divinity of humanity, and the nature of sin and evil. Chapter Four: Jewish Mysticism and the Creation Story: I. Jewish Mysticism. Explains Jewish mysticism, traces the early evolvement of Kabbalah, and explains the kabbalists concept of the Sefirot. II. The Sefirot and Creation: An in-depth explanation of Kabbalah as it relates to the Creation Story to show the original, intended meaning of this tale. Chapter Five: Sin, Guilt and Evil. I. Jewish Thought. II. Christian Thought. The why and how the sense of sin, guilt and evil that pervades the theological presentation of the Creation Story became a part of Jewish and Christian thought. The viewpoint of Jewish and Christian mysticism. Chapter Six: Past, Present and Future. I. Cyclical Changes . Comparison of the radical disruption of traditional religious ways that to

The Bible is widely regarded as the book of books. In a way, people shaped by Western culture are all children of the Bible: Its language has shaped our languages. Its morality is a foundation of our morality. Its pictures have furnished our world of imagination. Its parables have given material and reference points to our literature and culture. But who really knows the Bible? How is it structured? What is its content? When and according to what criteria was it determined which scriptures were to be included in the Bible and which were not? What is the best way to interpret it: historically, salvation-historically, or spiritually? And what significance can the Bible have for Christians and all spiritual seekers today? You will find answers in this book.

The greatest question that has baffled mankind since the beginning of time is that of the origin of life and the world in which he lives. Religion (and its theory of creation or belief - also known as creationism) simply declares that 'God created life and the entire universe in just 7 days!' A theory that doesn't appeal to the educated modern mind, which is inclined towards actual facts, concrete proof and science. On its part, science offers a whole different theory about the origin of life and the universe. It presents its proof and facts via complex theories of evolution that do not hold up to the test of time and advancements in technology. Hence, these theories get modified ever so often as new discoveries are made. Religion (and its theory of creation) doesn't make sense and science (and its troy of evolution) can't explain it completely, so who can? In this book, Creation vs Evolution: Scientific and Spiritual Confirmation That Life Was Designed, Rev. Ezekiel King, a powerful spiritualist with a deep knowledge of science and the supernatural, explains all. Nature - life and the universe - as scientists have discovered, is extremely complex, and yet so intelligent in design! This book, CREATION VS EVOLUTION, takes a close look at all the facts. Firstly, scientifically, then logically, and then, by the author's unique gifts, supernaturally. For the real facts to emerge, the author opens a door into the supernatural realm of existence where witnesses to the original events of creation still exist and all kinds of incredible knowledge are revealed. This book, CREATION VS EVOLUTION: Scientific and Spiritual Confirmation That Life Was Designed, is a creation answers book that offers the following: - A detailed account of events in the 7-day creation period described in the Bible (creation science). - God's signature of ownership; a unique structural model embedded in the basic makeup of all things in nature, great and small, living and non-living. - An examination of the theory of evolution and other theories presented by science as the origin of life. Errors highlighted, photos included. - A full account of the first attempt by scientists to create life in a laboratory. - The miracle of the DNA explained. - The structure of the Universe explained. Photos included. - Reasons for the appearance and disappearance of the dinosaurs on Earth. - Details of the events of the first war in Heaven. - The full account of the temptation and fall of the First Man. - Explanations of world mysteries - the Devil's Triangle in the Atlantic Ocean, the endless oil-rich deserts of the Middle East, etc. - An explanation for the birth of Christ by a mortal woman. This book, CREATION VS EVOLUTION: Scientific and Spiritual Confirmation That Life Was Designed, has been written in a simplified way so all may read and understand that life and nature itself was carefully planned and designed by someone incredibly powerful and intelligent. There is no way any aspect of it could have come into existence by accident or chance. In the face of the current environmental crisis—which clearly has moral and spiritual dimensions—members of all the world’s faiths have come to recognize the critical importance of religion’s relationship to ecology. The Wiley Blackwell Companion to Religion and Ecology offers a comprehensive overview of the history and the latest developments in religious engagement with environmental issues throughout the world. Newly commissioned essays from noted scholars of diverse faiths and scientific traditions present the most cutting-edge thinking on religion’s relationship to the environment. Initial readings explore the ways traditional concepts of nature in Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and other religious traditions have been shaped by the environmental crisis. Readings then address the changing nature of theology and religious thought in response to the challenges of protecting the environment. Various conceptual issues and themes that transcend individual traditions—climate change, bio-ethics, social justice, ecofeminism, and more—are then analyzed before a final section examines some of the immediate challenges we face in caring for the Earth while looking to the future of religious environmentalism. Timely and thought-provoking, Companion to Religion and Ecology offers illuminating insights into the role of religion in the ongoing struggle to secure the future well-being of our natural world. With a foreword by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, and an Afterword by John Cobb

How was the World Created? From a direct spiritual perception of the facts, Rudolf Steiner presents a new perspective that transcends the bipolar arguments of both the creationists and the scientific reductionist. He affirms that clairvoyant research accords with the biblical descriptions, but he emphasizes that the text of Genesis has to be interpreted in a special way.In this extraordinary document, Steiner speaks of the six days of creation as a reawakening of the previous phases of the Earth's development. He describes the work of spiritual hierarchies in the creation of Earth and clarifies the relationship of the Elohim and the biblical Jehovah. In addition, Steiner discusses themes of light and darkness, the meaning of Adam and Eve, the day of rest on the seventh day, the stages of human development on Earth, and the special character of the Hebrew language. Also featured in this new edition is a previously unpublished introductory lecture on the meaning of mystery drama.

Sir Karl Popper, the great philosopher, said, ?The real mystery in life is that the universe itself seems to be creative.' This book is an introduction to creativity with an essay on the connection between faith and fiction. It contains a few of the author's favorite ancient cultural myths, some folktales of recent times, and some original stories. These are ideal for reading to children. This book includes stories for families from our ancestors great and unknown; some are contemporary individualistic doodles in the sands of time that readers may simply enjoy. All of us should be telling the stories of our imaginations for the sake of our children and future generations, not only for their pleasure but wherein they might find a way forward through the mysteries and changes in life. The book has commentaries on the myths and finishes with an explanation of the purpose of myths that concludes with a challenge for modern myth making.
