Find Out Anything From Anyone, Anytime will give you the power to: Identify and practice good questioning techniques Recognize types of questions to avoid Know the questions required when hearing unconfirmed reports or gossip Practice good listening techniques and exploit all leads Determine when and how to control the conversation Gain real expertise fast Within professional interrogation circles, author James Pyle is known as a strategic debriefer—meaning there is no one around him more skilled at asking questions and getting answers. This book presents a theory and empirical evidence for how security forces can identify militant suspects during counterinsurgency operations. A major oversight on the part of academics and practitioners has been to ignore the critical antecedent issue common to persuasion and coercion counterinsurgency (COIN) approaches: distinguishing friend from foe. This book proposes that the behaviour of security forces influences the likelihood of militant identification during a COIN campaign, and argues that security forces must respect civilian safety in order to create a credible commitment to facilitate collaboration with a population. This distinction is important as conventional wisdom has wrongly assumed that the presence of security forces confers control over terrain or influence over a population. Collaboration between civilian and government actors is the key observable indicator of support in COIN. Paradoxically, this theory accounts for why and how increased risk to government forces in the short term actually improves civilian security in the long run. Counterinsurgency, Security Forces, and the Identification Problem draws on three case studies: the Huk Rebellion in the Philippines post-World War II; Marines Corps’ experiences in Vietnam through the Combined Action Program; and Special Operations activities in Iraq after 2003. For military practitioners, the work illustrates the critical precursor to establishing "security" during counterinsurgency operations. The book also examines the role and limits of modern technology in solving the identification problem. This book will be of interest to students of counterinsurgency, military history, strategic studies, US foreign policy, and security studies in general.

Leadership and turnaround expert Jackie Jenkins-Scott shows you how to spot and take advantage of opportunities in any environment. Being a responsive leader means playing to win. Responsive leadership can thrive anywhere, unlike systematic leadership. The latter imposes methods and laws; principles govern action. In contrast, responsive leadership is a living, changing set of traits and skills that adapts to new people and environments. You may have an impressive grasp of how to influence, inspire, and build teams, but you must know how to adapt your abilities to each new organization, or to changes within the organization—new board members, new staff members, new shareholders. The 7 Secrets of Responsive Leadership spotlights how to build the skills to be a leader in any environment. Richly illustrated with stories from the author’s decades of experience as a CEO, the book explores how to: Take advantage of opportunity Turn around an organization Compete well by leading with heart Keep your bags packed Echo one message at a time Look for opposition Value the interconnectedness of people Recover quickly At its core, this book is about the intimate relationship between leadership and opportunity. The author lived that relationship in transforming a major urban health care center and a college from struggling and failing organizations to thriving, international leaders in their field.

Meet Alyssa Dashiell-attractive, gifted young attorney, relishing the wellearned reward of a few moments to herself behind the wheel of a founding partner's Bugatti Veyron, the world's fastest car. Powerless to resist taking the once-in-a-lifetime experience to its extreme, she gains the attention of Police Officer Connor Daeman-an encounter that proves life-changing for both in ways neither could imagine. A fast-flowing chain of events rapidly unfolds; enthralling, hold-yourbreath occurrences that lead inexorably to what will be called the trial of the century-a powerful courtroom drama, as provocative as it is divisive, that pits two of the world's finest lawyers against each other in a contest that puts everything on the line, with the potential to abolish centuries of hard-earned rights for millions. It is a trial, controversial, incendiary, and tainted with madness, that sets the stage to blow the lid off the naive belief that there are some things that just can't happen in America. Suspenseful, alarming, and destined for controversy, Decision and Dissent is to be counted among those rare novels that require courage on the part of the reader; virtually every page will affect the reader like no story he or she has ever read before. Explosive action, humour, and provocative points of view expressed by characters who leap to life will hold the reader spellbound to the very last page.
