Shara Komayd, once Prime Minister of Saypur, has been assassinated. News travels fast and far, even to a remote logging town somewhere northwest of Bulikov, where the silent, shaven-headed Dreyling worker 'Bjorn' picks up the newspaper and walks out. He is shocked and grieved and furious; he's been waiting thirteen years for Shara, his closest friend, to reach out to him - to tell him to come home. He's always believed she was running a long operation, that there would be a role for him at the right time. Now he has no one else in his life, and nothing to live for - except to find the people who did this. Sigrud wasn't there for the death of his daughter Signe, and he wasn't there when Shara was murdered. Now Bjorn is dead and Sigrud is back. And he will find answers, for Shara, and for himself. He's made a promise . . .

A special omnibus edition, collecting all three books of Robert Jackson Bennett’s acclaimed Divine Cities trilogy in a single volume. In a world where terrifying, capricious gods once walked the earth, enslaving and brutalizing millions, three unforgettable protagonists struggle to come to terms with the mysteries these divinities left behind— and to make sure these cruel masters do not rise again. In City of Stairs, an unassuming young woman named Shara Thivani arrives in Bulikov, the city that once wielded the powers of the gods to conquer the world. Officially, she is just another junior diplomat, dispatched by the city’s new colonial masters; unofficially, she is one of her country’s most accomplished spies, on a mission to solve a murder. As she pursues the killer, she begins to suspect that the gods who once guarded Bulikov are not as dead as they seem, and that the city’s cruel reign may begin anew. In City of Blades, General Turin Mulaghesh—foul-mouthed hero of the battle of Bulikov, rumored war criminal, ally of an embattled prime minister—is pressed into service one last time, investigating a terrifying discovery in the city of Voortyashtan, once the stronghold of the god of war and death. Voortyashtan’s god is most certainly dead, but something is awakening in the city. And someone is determined to make the world tremble at the city’s awful power once again. In City of Miracles, the formidable, seemingly unkillable Sigrud je Harkvaldsson returns from self-imposed exile on a mission of revenge, only to find himself embroiled in a battle that may be beyond even his abilities to win—a secret, decades-long war that will force him to confront the last mysteries of Bulikov, the city of miracles itself.

An atmospheric and intrigue-filled novel of dead gods, buried histories, and a mysterious, protean city--from one of America's most acclaimed young fantasy writers. The city of Bulikov once wielded the powers of the gods to conquer the world, enslaving and brutalizing millions—until its divine protectors were killed. Now Bulikov has become just another colonial outpost of the world's new geopolitical power, but the surreal landscape of the city itself—first shaped, now shattered, by the thousands of miracles its guardians once worked upon it—stands as a constant, haunting reminder of its former supremacy. Into this broken city steps Shara Thivani. Officially, the unassuming young woman is just another junior diplomat sent by Bulikov's oppressors. Unofficially, she is one of her country's most accomplished spies, dispatched to catch a murderer. But as Shara pursues the killer, she starts to suspect that the beings who ruled this terrible place may not be as dead as they seem—and that Bulikov's cruel reign may not yet be over.

Reverend Doctor Minh Van Lam was born into a Buddhist family in 1939 in Bac Lieu Province, South Vietnam. His mother said family and friends thought he would live until three years after his birth. After he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in 1947, when he was eight years old, he asked God to let him live until he was eighteen years old so that he could work and make money for his mother, and then he would die. But God performed miracles, allowing him to continue living. These are some highlights from his early career: • He graduated from the National School of Pedagogy in Saigon in 1959. • He graduated from the English Language School of the Defense Language Institute in Lackland Air Force Base to become a teacher of the English language in 1968. • He was a public elementary school principal and high school teacher in Soc Trang, South Vietnam, as well as the Armed Forces Language School instructor of the South Vietnam Army in Saigon. He holds a bachelor of arts in biblical studies from the Washington Bible College in Lanham, Maryland, a master of divinity from the Capital Bible Seminary in Lanham, Maryland, and a doctor of ministry from the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has been a mission pastor of Grand Ave Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas; Vietnamese Hope Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia; Vietnamese United Baptist Church in Austin, Texas; First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Florida; Vietnamese Gospel Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida; and Vietnamese Gospel Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia (from 1987 to 1995 and 2010 to the present). He was an adjunct professor of the Boyce Bible College of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Extension and the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Arlington, Virginia, and was vice president of the Vietnamese Baptist Theological School in Dallas, Texas. He has been a speaker at Vietnamese National Church conferences in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia, as well as a speaker for the Alpha and Omega Program at Vietnam Public Radio in Washington, DC. Leading Bible scholar Henry Morris reflects his deep love for the Bible by exploring recorded miracles, and shedding some light on miracles that occur today. From the feeding of many with just a few fish, to a discussion of today's healing miracles, Morris examines the following: Why many scientists dismiss miracles People who are convinced miracles happened to them The truth about modern miracles Can prayer bring about miracles?

There are only two ways to live our life, according to Albert Einstein: one is as if nothing is a miracle; the other, as if everything is a miracle. Life of Miracles along the Yangtze and Mississippi is a book about how the impossible became possible—about things that happened in China and America to the people Wang Ping grew up with, met, and befriended along her journeys between these two distant rivers. This is also a story about water, alive with spirits and energy, giving birth to all sentient beings. We are water. The river runs through us. Those who live in harmony with water can ride the current of the universe—the secret of Tao, reaching all the way to the sea of miracles, one story, one droplet, and one wave at a time. A miracle is a state of mind, a way of living: how we face hardship, pain, and tragedies, how we transform them into fuels for our journey and transcend them into joy and hope. This is a book about how ordinary people perform miracles every day; how we are touched, touching, all the time, across oceans and continents, across time and space, through our stories.

This book is a collection of the miracles, parables and commandments of Jesus, presented by way of comparative study of the four gospels. Jesus is presented here as a human being, homeless and itinerant, who became son of God through renunciation, meditation which led to self-realization. He through the miracles, taught us to restrain from self-glorification, the root cause of sin, but give glory to God for all your achievements because it is not your body, but the spirit of God in you that enables you to do miracles or the works of God. Through the Parables he taught us to what is the kingdom of God and how to seek it. The Commandments, conveyed to us through the Sermon on the Mount teach us how to purify our hearts, lead a righteous life and become perfect or sons of God, who is perfect. One who realize the truth of the Sermon and live accordingly would become God on earth. It is the sum total of all ancient great religions in the world. This book is divided into three parts: the first part dealing with miracles performed by Jesus; the second with parables told by Jesus in the course of his public ministry that form part of his teachings; and the third, commandments, as contained in the Sermon on the Mount.

Since the early 1980s, approximately ten million people have turned to charismatic businessman-turned-preacher "Brother Mike" and his Catholic "prosperity" movement, El Shaddai DWXI Prayer Partners Foundation International, Inc. Investing in Miracles offers an in-depth look at this unique indigenous movement, characterized by its effective use of mass media and its huge, emotion-filled outdoor rallies. The book investigates the sociocultural, political, and economic contexts of El Shaddai's popularity among the Filipino urban poor and aspiring middle classes and explores its significance for its followers, which reaches well beyond promises of appliances, salary raises, jobs abroad, and healing. Katharine Wiegele argues that Shaddai's theology directly engages and affirms desires for the material signs of modernity in ways that the mainstream Philippine Roman Catholic Church and Filipino leftist movements do not. At stake for its many adherents are their place and identity within the broader society; the meaning of their experiences of poverty, suffering, and oppression; and the relevance of their very notions of God, Christian community, and Christian life. Wiegele evocatively captures the religious and everyday experiences of her informants' lives in poor squatter neighborhoods of Manila. She is particularly sensitive to El Shaddai's delicate and often contorted relationship with the Catholic Church, which accepts the movement reluctantly, fearful of losing the loyalty of millions of faithful Catholics. While anchored in the local realities of the Philippines, Investing in Miracles will be of great interest to readers elsewhere for its exploration of religious seduction and interpretation, the interface between religion and politics, and the relevance of religion for the urban disenfranchised.
