Caught in the Middle was born from the thought of how we are caught between society, the day to day challenges, temptations and doing what is right according to our Maker, God. These are my observations of how we have forgotten that with a little faith and a lot of love, we can overcome some of life's most devastating pains.

The Monroe brothers have their differences, but one project unites them: turning an antebellum mansion in their Haven, Georgia, hometown into a peaceful spa. It was the dream of their late sister—and it’s about to set off a major renovation in the life of middle brother Braxton. . . Braxton Monroe’s taking a break from teaching to do some strenuous work on a Civil War–era house, and feeling the strain in every rock-hard muscle. Good thing he has to interview massage therapists for the spa—even if it’s embarrassing to meet a job candidate in his boxers. Cora Buchanan has hands so talented—and a voice so sultry—he wants to hire her before he even lifts his head from the table. But he’s shocked to meet her outside the massage room—with her seeing-eye dog, Heidi the yellow lab. Cora has left her family—and fiancé—in Atlanta to make her way in this small town. All her parents’ money can’t restore her sight, but it’s up to her to restore her independence. Though she bristles at Braxton’s protectiveness, she too feels lingering effects from their intimate touch. Now that he’s her boss, it’s strictly hands-off. . . .Until a secret she’s keeping destroys his fragile trust, and they must find the courage to knock down the walls between them. Often we are placed in a situation for which we are not prepared. I found myself in that reality with no contingency plan in place. Not only did I lack the coping skills to handle it, but I also resented the fact that it did not fit into the perfect little world that I had envisioned. Little did I fully appreciate it at the time, but the most valued treasures are those that are obtained through great struggle. It is by the struggles I endured and the effort I put forth that I gained the wisdom to sift the chaff from the wheat.

The Native Tolowa of Northern California were displaced and nearly destroyed in the nineteenth century, but they have since struggled to reclaim their language and collective identity. Today they are emerging as a cohesive cultural and political group. In Understanding Tolowa Histories, James Collins presents a complex historical inquiry into the Tolowa, Native American responses to U.S. domination, and Enlightenment political legacies. He incisively analyzes the relation between cultural otherness and political-economic subjugation, the complexities of history and identity, and the discursive dynamics of claiming a place and resisting displacement. In the process, he situates the Tolowa in the larger context of U.S. and Indian histories while developing a critique of contemporary anthropology.

Does it matter when the saints are caught up? I believe it does. If someone believes they are going to be caught up before a period of great tribulation or affliction, and this belief happens to be false, there may be serious ramifications. How can a person prepare themselves for something they don’t believe is going to happen? If the average person is suddenly told they must run a marathon (26 miles) today, what percentage of the population could finish the race without stopping? I would venture to say the percentage would be very low. Well the same will hold true if a person is not spiritually prepared to endure a period of great tribulation or affliction; how will they make it through and hold fast to the gospel of Jesus Christ? After we receive God’s word, we must continue daily in His word by reading, studying, meditating, and praying. This is how we put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). If those who hold on to the pre-tribulation catching up of the saints’ theory are correct, then everything is fine. If they are wrong, then they indeed might turn away from the faith in Jesus because they are not prepared to endure tribulation or affliction. Knowing this, an important question arises: through scripture, can we prove 100% without a doubt that a pre-tribulation catching up of the saints will occur? I have studied and compared many scriptures related to the topic and I have found the answer to be “no.” In fact, from my study, the scriptures seem to prove the exact opposite - that the saints will have to go through a period of great tribulation of affliction before the appearing and coming of Jesus Christ. We must gird ourselves in the word of God in order to be spiritually prepared to go through some challenging times - our everlasting life with Jesus depends on it. Decide for yourself as you read through this book.

In "Commercial Visions," Daniel Margocsy shows how entrepreneurial science has been with us since the Scientific Revolution. Product marketing, patent litigation, and even ghostwriting pervaded natural history and anatomy, the big sciences of the early modern era, and the growth of global trade during the Dutch Golden Age gave rise to a transnational network of such entrepreneurial science, connecting natural historians, physicians, and curiosi in such cities as Amsterdam, London, St. Petersburg, and Danzig. These practitioners were out to do business: they bought and sold exotica, preserved specimens, anatomical prints, and botanical atlases, and in their trade relied on particularly mercantile innovations, including postal networks, shipping, public transportation, and international banking. They also developed their own infrastructure for managing the long-distance monetary exchange of scientific knowledge and curiosities, while entrepreneurial rivalries, secrecy, and marketing strategies transformed the honorific, gift-based exchange system of the Republic of Letters into a competitive marketplace. Throughout this process, the Dutch naturalists contributed to the growth of modern science, imbuing its ethos and practices with financial undertones. "Commercial Visions "studies the interaction of commerce and science through the lens of recent scholarship on commodification, the circulation of knowledge, and the consumer revolution to argue that trade brought about a culture of scientific debate in the Netherlands that thoroughly influenced the visual epistemology of early modern science. Market competition pitted naturalists against each other, and compelled them to develop philosophical arguments to promote the representational claims of their imaging techniques. Margocsy s highly readable book will be warmly welcomed by anyone interested in early modern science, culture, and art. "

Humans have been fishing for food and pleasure since time immemorial. Long before the development of powerful commercial fishing vessels, tribal communities sought fish and other marine life for food and ceremonial purposes. Today, there is a significant tourism sector around diving and snorkelling.Commercial and recreational fisheries often compete for the same fish stock. Together these two groups compete with those who wish to promote a 'look but don't take' attitude to fish. And in some cases, traditional indigenous fishers have special demands that can be inconsistent with the needs of other groups. The limited nature of fish stocks can lead to arguments between these different groups. Too often the arguments are based on a wrong use of economic data. Access to and sharing of fisheries resources need not necessarily be based on economic data and principles, but if they are, the proper approach must be used. This book sets out in clear language, with simple examples, the correct economic method to be used. The aim is to improve decision-making so that everyone can enjoy a seafood meal, drop a line in the water or observe fish in a natural environment without unnecessary conflict.

Since the time of Columbus, explorers dreamed of a water passage across the North American continent. President Thomas Jefferson shared this dream. He conceived the Corps of Discovery to travel up the Missouri River to the Rocky Mountains and westward along possible river routes to the Pacific Ocean. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led this expedition of 1804?6. Along the way they filled hundreds of notebook pages with observations of the geography, Indian tribes, and natural history of the trans-Mississippi West. This volume covers the last leg of the party's route from the Cascades of the Columbia River to the Pacific Coast, and their stay at Fort Clatsop, near the river's mouth, until the spring of 1806. Travel and exploration were hampered by miserable weather. While in winter quarters, Lewis wrote detailed reports on natural phenomena and Indian life. These descriptions were accompanied by sketches of plants and animals as well as of Indians and their canoes, tools, and clothing.
