Taking a multidisciplinary approach, this book presents an insightful exploration of the theoretical and practical advances in women's health care. The opening part examines the various shapes that a new framework in women's health might take. Such issues as using the male experience as the norm, reducing women to merely reproductive entities, and promoting the notion of biological primacy are addressed. In the second part, contributors carry the argument for reframing women's health into the sociopolitical arena, looking at women in the Third World and at integrating women's health into health care reform. Part Three examines significant issues dealing with reproduction and sexuality, while Part Four focuses on the impact of violence and

Healthcare Strategies and Planning for Social Inclusion and Development: Volume Two: Social, Economic, and Health Disparities of Rural Women examines rural women, particularly in developing countries, and how social and economic constraints they experience impact their ability to advocate for their own health and impede their access to healthcare. This volume discusses the economic and social barriers rural women confront in exercising their right to health care. It explains how geographical isolation, economic instability, healthcare provider shortages, lack of appropriate funding, resource limitations, and lack of health education are just few factors that make rural health care difficult. The book also covers the impact of social isolation on the health needs of rural women which include chronic diseases, mental health, and OB/GYN services as well as how the lack of opportunities for formal education restrict rural women from working outside the household. This volume will be a useful resource to graduate students in public and global health, public health professionals, health and social work researchers, and health policymakers interested in women’s health, especially in developing countries. Discusses health disparities of rural women in chronic diseases, access to pediatric and ob/gyn services, and mental health treatment Examines the health consequences of poverty and food insecurity on health Covers health care access and reproductive health outcomes for rural women

GOD'S HEALTH PLAN - THE AUDACIOUS JOURNEY TO A BETTER LIFE A Principle Approach Study to Food, Health Care & Environmental Issues By Ricki Pepin A desperate Mom is willing to do a lot for a chronically ill child. After 12 years of disabling, undiagnosed sickness for her son, the author had all but lost hope. She began her own research to find relief for her child, unaware of the vast scope of the journey before her. Sickness carries not only physical, but spiritual roots. Health encompasses not just diet, but lifestyle choices, medical decisions and environmental issues. The solution to her son's dilemma came through prayer, study and application of seven biblical principles. God's health plan is about wholeness and restoration; adding life to your years, not just years to your life. It's not what you have to do. It's what you can do. God's health plan is not a destination. It's a daily journey - a sometimes audacious journey. Are you ready to begin yours? ."This book would be a valuable reference to anyone who wants to understand God's principles of health." - Bill Gothard, President - Institute in Basic Life Principles ."you will learn to better understand your God-designed body and how to care for it." - Dr. Bill Sears, widely known as "America's Pediatrician" Ricki Pepin is a wife, mother and grandmother. A former homeschool teacher to her children, she was introduced to the Principle Approach to education in 1991 and developed an enthusiastic vision for entire families to learn and apply the seven principles to every area of their lives. She does not set herself up as an expert on health, but rather equips the reader with the tools necessary to search out their own answers, as she did. Her excitement and hope are contagious as she spreads the message of personal and corporate stewardship practices that can change individual's lives and make this earth a healthier place for our great-great-grandchildren.

Growing research shows that many children from immigrant and refugee families are not doing well in school, due in part to linguistic and cultural disadvantages. Teaching dual-language learners requires cultural sensitivity, an understanding of language acquisition, and intentional teaching strategies. Combining research and techniques, this resource helps early childhood educators support dual-language learners as they develop the skills necessary for school readiness and success.

The Complete Guide to Human Resources and the Law offers fast, dependable, plain English legal guidance for HR-related situations from ADA accommodation, diversity training, and privacy issues to hiring and termination, employee benefit plans, compensation, and recordkeeping. It brings you the most up-to-date information as well as practical tips and checklists in a well-organized, easy-to-use resource. The 2010 Edition provides new and expanded coverage of issues such as: Discussion of the economic recovery measures under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, the Worker, Retiree and Employer Recovery Act of 2008, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 The PBGC flat-rate premium for single employer plans for 2009 is $34/participant The requirement of distributing Summary Annual Reports to participants and beneficiaries has been replaced by the requirement of issuing annual funding notices for most benefit plans; DOL issued a model notice and FAQs for implementing the requirement Courts continued to develop standards under Metropolitan Life Insurance v. Glenn, 128 S. Ct. 2343 (2008), for reviewing claims decisions made by decision-makers (such as plan sponsors and insurers) that have a conflict of interest because they are responsible for paying whatever claims are allowed The Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009, Pub. L. 111-3 (CHIPRA), intended to improve coordination between EGHPs and state Medicaid and SCHIP (coverage for uninsured children) plans, caused EGHP and cafeteria plans to be amended "Michellersquo;s Law, " Pub. L. 110-381, requires EGHPs to extend coverage to employees' dependent children who are covered as post-secondary students if they have to interrupt their studies for health-related reasons More states allowed same-sex couples to marry or have legally related domestic partnerships or civil unions - with implications for work-related benefit plans that cover "spouses. " The requirement of benefit parity between mental and physical illnesses was made permanent by EESA The HITECH Act (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health; part of ARRA) was enacted to strengthen the privacy and security rules under HIPAA, and to promote broader usage of electronic medical records. State Attorneys General now have the power to enforce HIPAA through suits in federal court. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (Pub. L. 111-2) was enacted. It increases the number of employment discrimination suits that can be brought by reversing the Supreme Court's decision that the timing rules for lawsuits begin when an allegedly discriminatory practice is adopted. The Supreme Court extended its string of pro-arbitration cases by ruling in 14 Penn Plaza LLC v. Pyett, 129 S. Ct. 1456 (4/1/09), that a collective bargaining agreement clause that clearly obligates union members to arbitrate ADEA claims is enforceable. The Supreme Court held that federal labor law preempts a California law that forbade employers that receive state contracts or other funding to discuss union matters with employees. As long as employers avoid coercion, federal law seeks to promote wide-open debate on labor issues: Chamber of Commerce v. Brown, 128 S. Ct. 2408 (2008). Another Supreme Court ruling discussed allows unions to charge non-members who pay agency fees in lieu of joining the union amounts representing certain expenses of national litigation: Locke

A central source of frustration for most adults with ADHD is that they know what they need to do but they have difficulties turning their intentions into actions. These difficulties also interfere with their ability to use self-help books and to get the most out of psychosocial treatments that provide coping strategies that promise to improve their functioning. Drs. Ramsay and Rostain are experts in the assessment and treatment of adult ADHD and are leaders in the development of effective psychosocial treatments for this group of patients. Their newest book, The Adult ADHD Tool Kit: Using CBT to Facilitate Coping Inside and Out is a coping guide for adults living with ADHD, one that does not just present useful coping strategies but also provides specific tactics designed to help readers implement these skills in their daily lives and brings them to life in a user-friendly format. The authors discuss many different settings in which ADHD may cause difficulties, including work, school, matters of physical health and well-being, and the issue of excessive use of technology. Although written for consumers, clinicians will find the book to be a clinically useful tool for their adult patients with ADHD, serving as a companion to the newly updated and expanded second edition of Drs. Ramsay and Rostain’s professional treatment manual, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult ADHD: An Integrative Psychosocial and Medical Approach.

This clear and compelling book challenges the reader to rethink the entire basis for human rights, providing a vastly different vision of a way forward out of our current quagmire. Mark Gibney persuasively advocates for a much broader reading of the law on state responsibility, arguing that current law misses most of the ways in which states fail to protect human rights and police violations. Calling for other measures to provide victims the "effective remedy" that international human rights law promises, Gibney sets forth a series of practical steps that would profoundly change the nature of human rights protection.
