This book assembles ten special studies, each devoted to an aspect of Fisher's multifaceted career or to exploring the intellectual and religious outlook of someone who was at the same time a moderniser, a reformer and an opponent of the Reformation. John Fisher's career provides an illuminating perspective on English religious and intellectual history in a crucial phase of development. As a churchman he became the foremost preacher in England, issuing a call to ecclesiastical reform and personal repentance that echoed the call of Savonarola at Florence. At the same time he provides an early example of the pastoral bishop that was to become the ideal of both the Reformation and the Counter Reformation. Finally in the crisis that paved the way for the English Reformation, he became the leading defender of Queen Catherine against the divorce suit of Henry VIII. He was among the small band who were executed in 1535 as conscientious objectors to the oaths of Succession and Royal Ecclesiastical Supremacy. He has been venerated as a Catholic martyr ever since.

Overview: The Haddock text features the successful author team Price et al. The author team based A Contemporary Approach on the solid foundation of the Price 12e textbook; however, in Haddock, the approach has been modified to fit the needs of a growing number of College Accounting instructors who teach the course without covering special journals. These instructors feel that special journals are an unnecessarily complicated subject for such a basic course. By eliminating special journal coverage, professors are free to focus on recording to the general journal and posting to the general ledger - the basic bookkeeping functions that are so important to accountants in the real world. Competing books have placed special journals in an appendix (Slater) or tried to separate special journal coverage from general journal coverage but retain both (McQuaig). Haddock is the only text on the market that eliminates special journal coverage completely (why make students pay for material they will not learn in the course?). With Haddock on the roster, instructor’s have a choice between a traditional approach that fully integrates special journals into the text in a succinct and logical way (Price 12e) or a contemporary approach that focuses on the basics and is more in keeping with where the course is headed in the future (Haddock 1e).

This edition of the U. S. Army War College Guide to National Security Policy and Strategy continues to reflect the structure and approach of the core national security strategy and policy curriculum at the War College. The fourth edition is published in two volumes that correspond roughly to the Department of National Security and Strategy's core courses: "Theory of War and Strategy" and "National Security Policy and Strategy." Like previous editions, this one is largely an expansion of its predecessor rather than a major rewriting. About a quarter of the chapters are new, and several others have undergone significant rewrites or updates. However, approximately half of the book remains unchanged. Although this is not primarily a textbook, it does reflect both the method and manner we use to teach strategy formulation to America's future senior leaders. The book is not a comprehensive or exhaustive treatment of either strategic theory or the policymaking process. Both volumes are organized to proceed from the general to the specific. Thus the first volume opens with general thoughts on the nature and theory of war and strategy, proceeds to look at the complex aspect of power, and concludes with specific theoretical issues. Similarly, the second volume begins by examining the policy/strategy process, moves to a look at the strategic environment, and concludes with some specific issues. This edition adds several short case studies that can be used to illustrate the primary material in the volume.
